Treestand & Saddle Locations For Hunting Whitetail Deer

How high up the tree should I hang my stand?

This is an honest personal preference, but in our experience the higher you get in a tree, the less you have to worry about scent control and movement. No matter what the height make sure you practice safety precautions both climbing in and out of the tree and while hunting.

It is also a good idea to practice shooting from the height of your stand and know good deer anatomy so you can know the proper angle at which your arrow needs to enter the deer.

What is the safest method to climbing a tree?

The most important thing when climbing in and out of your stand is to always stay connected. Whether that means using a lineman’s belt, lifeline, safety harness, or a combination of all 3. You just need to constantly be connected! No deer is worth your life.

Should I make the switch to saddle hunting?

This is a question many maul over for years. You should definately giev it a try as many bow hunters are very thankful that they decided to start saddle hunting. It has all the advantages of hunting from a tree stand with the added versatility and mobility of using a saddle. Make sure to check out our JX3 HYBRID Saddle for the most comfortable saddle on the market.

Should I hunt from a ground blind?

Ground blinds are a great tool when bow hunting. You have ground eye view or your surroundings and they can be easy and quite to access. Another advantage to hunting from ground blinds is that they can be placed anywhere, you don’t need a tree. Every good bowhunter should have a ground blind in their bow hunting repertoire.

Should I hunt from a tree stand?

Tree stand hunting is most hunters preferred style of bowhunting white tail deer. Being in a tree gives you a great vantage and ambush point. It conceals your movements and helps with scent control. Another advantage of tree stand hunting is the ambush factor, deer don’t have a lot of predators from above so they rarely look up unless given a reason to do so.

Where do deer like to bed and where should I hang my stand?

The main factor for where deer like to bed is somewhere they feel safe. So, in heavily pressured areas they look for somewhere remote, in low pressure areas they like to stay close to their preferred food sources. Regardless of pressure bucks prefer to face downwind and be able to watch their back trail. That was they can smell what’s up wind, and see what’s downwind.
